DTC U017F-00 (E-Pretensioner Unit) (2016 2017 2018 2019 2020)

DTC U017F-00  : Lost Communication with the Another Side E-Pretensioner Unit

NOTE:

U017F-00 Lost Communication with the Another Side E-Pretensioner Unit  

DTC (E-pretensioner)

  1. CAN gateway system DTC check

    - 1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    - 2. Check for CAN gateway system DTCs with the HDS.

    U0029-00 CAN Gateway F-CAN ch A Bus Off  
    U0047-00 CAN Gateway F-CAN ch B Bus Off  
    U3000-49 CAN Gateway Internal Failure  

    Is DTC U0029-00, U0047-00, and/or U3000-49 indicated?

    YES 

    Go to the troubleshooting for CAN gateway system DTC(s) .

    NO 

    Go to step 2.

  2. F-CAN circuit communication check

    - 1. Select the FUNCTION TEST in the CAN gateway with the HDS, then select the F-CAN Bus Connected Unit Check.

    Which result is indicated?

    FRONT PASSENGER'S E-PRETENSIONER UNIT is Not Available

    Go to step 3.

    DRIVER'S E-PRETENSIONER UNIT is Not Available

    Go to step 4.

    E-PRETENSIONER UNITS are Detected

    Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Refer to intermittent failures troubleshooting.

  3. Open wire check (F-CAN A_H, F-CAN A_L lines)

    - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connectors.

    Front passenger's E-pretensioner unit 14P connector
    CAN gateway 24P connector

    - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    Front passenger's E-pretensioner unit 14P connector: disconnected
    CAN gateway 24P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 Front passenger's E-pretensioner unit 14P connector No. 10 - Refer to:
    E-Pretensioner Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016 2017 2018 2019 2020)
    Test point 2 CAN gateway 24P connector No. 14
    Test point 1 Front passenger's E-pretensioner unit 14P connector No. 11 - Refer to:
    E-Pretensioner Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016 2017 2018 2019 2020)
    Test point 2 CAN gateway 24P connector No. 15

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The F-CAN A_H and F-CAN A_L wires are OK. Replace the front passenger's E-pretensioner unit .

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the CAN gateway and the front passenger's E-pretensioner unit.

  4. Open wire check (F-CAN A_H, F-CAN A_L lines)

    - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connectors.

    Driver's E-pretensioner unit 16P connector
    CAN gateway 24P connector

    - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      Driver's E-pretensioner unit 16P connector: disconnected
      CAN gateway 24P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 Driver's E-pretensioner unit 16P connector No. 12 - Refer to:
    E-Pretensioner Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016 2017 2018 2019 2020)
    Test point 2 CAN gateway 24P connector No. 14
    Test point 1 Driver's E-pretensioner unit 16P connector No. 13 - Refer to:
    E-Pretensioner Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016 2017 2018 2019 2020)
    Test point 2 CAN gateway 24P connector No. 15

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The F-CAN A_H and F-CAN A_L wires are OK. Go to step 5.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the CAN gateway and the driver's E-pretensioner unit.

  5. Fuse check

    - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Check the following fuse.

    Fuse No. E26 (30 A)
    Location Passenger's under-dash fuse/relay box

    Is the fuse OK?

    YES 

    Go to step 6.

    NO 

    Replace the fuse, then turn the vehicle to the ON mode. If the fuse blows again, check for a short to ground in the passenger's under-dash fuse/relay box No. E26 (30 A) fuse circuit.

  6. Fuse check

    - 1. Check the following fuse.

    Fuse No. B2-2 (60 A)
    Location Main under-hood fuse box

    Is the fuse OK?

    YES 

    Go to step 7.

    NO 

    Replace the fuse, then turn the vehicle to the ON mode. If the fuse blows again, check for a short to ground in the under-hood fuse/relay box No. B2-2 (60 A) fuse circuit.

  7. Open wire check (+ B EPT L line)

    - 1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    - 2. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle ON mode
    Driver's E-pretensioner unit 16P connector: disconnected
    CAN gateway 24P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 Driver's E-pretensioner unit 16P connector No. 1 - Refer to:
    E-Pretensioner Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016 2017 2018 2019 2020)
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there battery voltage?

    YES 

    The + B EPT L wire is OK. Go to step 8.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the driver's E-pretensioner unit 16P connector and the passenger's under-dash fuse/relay box.

  8. Open wire check (PGND line)

    - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    Driver's E-pretensioner unit 16P connector: disconnected
    CAN gateway 24P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 Driver's E-pretensioner unit 16P connector No. 4 - Refer to:
    E-Pretensioner Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2016 2017 2018 2019 2020)
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The PGND wire is OK. Replace the driver's E-pretensioner unit .

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the driver's E-pretensioner unit 16P connector and body ground at G602.
