DTC U017F-00 (2014 2015 SRS Unit)

DTC U017F-00  : Lost Communication With the Driver's E-Pretensioner Unit

DTC Description DTC
U017F-00 Lost communication with the driver's E-pretensioner unit  

DTC (SRS)

  1. Problem verification

    -1. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.

    - 2. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, then wait for 10 seconds.

    - 3. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

    DTC Description DTC
    U017F-00 Lost communication with the driver's E-pretensioner unit  

    Is DTC U017F-00 indicated?

    YES 

    The failure is duplicated. Go to step 2.

    NO 

    Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures . If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.

  2. Fuse check

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Check the following fuse.

    Fuse No. E26 (30 A)
    Location Passenger's under-hood fuse/relay box

    Is the fuse OK?

    YES 

    Go to step 3.

    NO 

    Replace the fuse, then turn vehicle to the ON mode. If the fuse blows again, check for a short to ground in the passenger's under-hood fuse/relay box No. E26 (30 A) fuse circuit.

  3. Open wire check (+B EPT L line)

    -1. Disconnect the following connector.

    Driver's E-pretensioner unit 16P connector

    - 2. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    Driver's E-pretensioner unit 16P connector: disconnected
    Test circuit +B EPT L
    Test point 1 Driver's E-pretensioner unit 16P connector No. 1 (GRN)
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there battery voltage?

    YES 

    The 'B EPT L wire is OK. Go to step 4.

    NO 

    Open in the floor wire harness; replace the floor wire harness, then clear the DTC.

  4. Open wire check (PGND line)

    -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    Driver's E-pretensioner unit 16P connector: disconnected
    Test circuit PGND
    Test point 1 Driver's E-pretensioner unit 16P connector No. 4 (BLK)
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The PGND wire is OK. Go to step 5.

    NO 

    Open in the floor wire harness; check for a poor ground at G602. If the ground is OK, replace the floor wire harness, then clear the DTC.

  5. Open wire check (F-CAN_H, F-CAN_L lines)

    -1. Disconnect the following connector.

    Front passenger's E-pretensioner unit 14P connector

    - 2. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    Driver's E-pretensioner unit 16P connector: disconnected
    Front passenger's E-pretensioner unit 14P connector: disconnected
    Test circuit F-CAN_H
    Test point 1 Driver's E-pretensioner unit 16P connector No. 12 (WHT)
    Test point 2 Front passenger's E-pretensioner unit 14P connector No. 10 (WHT)
    Test circuit F-CAN_L
    Test point 1 Driver's E-pretensioner unit 16P connector No. 13 (BRN)
    Test point 2 Front passenger's E-pretensioner unit 14P connector No. 11 (BRN)

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The F-CAN_H and F-CAN_L wires are OK. Substitute a known-good E-pretensioner unit , then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good E-pretensioner unit, replace the original E-pretensioner unit .

    NO 

    Open in the harness between driver's E-pretensioner unit 16P connector terminal No. 12 and front passenger's E-pretensioner unit 14P connector terminal No. 10, or between driver's E-pretensioner unit 16P connector terminal No. 13 and front passenger's E-pretensioner unit 14P connector terminal No. 11; replace the floor wire harness, then clear the DTC.
