BSI Radar Unit Mounting Area Check

Required Materials: 

Before checking: 

  1. Remove the rear bumper (see LOWER FRONT BUMPER GRILLE REPLACEMENT ).
  2. Remove the BSI radar unit(s) (see BSI RADAR UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION  ).
    NOTE: Make sure to remove the BSI radar unit when repairing the body.
  3. Remove the screw, and detach the hooks (A), then remove the side spacer (B).

  4. Detach and the clips, then remove the BSI radar dust cover (A).

  5. Install the appropriate length 6 mm bolts for each of the BSI radar unit mounting holes.

    HOLE A: 30-35 mm (1.18-1.38 in) 

    HOLE B: 45-50 mm (1.77-1.97 in) 

  6. Hold or tape the plumb line against the quarter panel directly above mounting hole A, and thread the bolt in or out until the head of the bolt just touches the plumb line.
  7. Measure the distance from the head to the end of the threaded insert in the quarter panel. If needed, have a body shop adjust the body panel.

    HOLE A: 11.0 ± 3.0 mm (0.433 ± 0.118 in)

  8. Hold or tape the plumb line against the rear quarter panel directly above mounting hole B, and thread the bolt in or out until the head of the bolt just touches the plumb line.
  9. Measure the distance from the head to the end of the threaded insert in the quarter panel. If needed, have a body shop adjust the body panel.

    HOLE B: HOLE A + 8.4±2.0 mm (0.331±0.079 in)

  10. Loosely install the BSI radar unit with the two front mounting bolts (see BSI RADAR UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION  ).
  11. Make sure there is no gap (A) between the BSI radar unit (B) and the quarter panel at the rear mounting bolt location. Also make sure the bracket hole and the bolt hole are properly aligned. If needed, have a body shop adjust the body panel.
    NOTE: When repairing the body panel, remove the BSI radar unit.

  12. Install BSI radar unit, and do the BSI radar unit aiming inspection (see BSI RADAR UNIT AIMING INSPECTION  ).
  13. Reinstall the remaining parts.
