DTC B1176: Fuel Level Sensor (Fuel Gauge Sending Unit) Circuit Short
- Clear the DTCs with the HDS.
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0) and then back to ON (II).
- Wait for at least 30 seconds.
- Check for DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC B1176 indicated?
YES -Go to step 5.
NO - Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for worn/missing insulation or an internal short in the wire.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position (0).
- Disconnect the fuel tank unit 5P connector.
- Clear any DTCs with the HDS.
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0) and then back to ON (II).
- Wait for at least 30 seconds.
- Check for DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC B1176 indicated?
YES -Go to step 11.
NO - Replace the fuel gauge sending unit. See FUEL PUMP/FUEL GAUGE SENDING UNIT REPLACEMENT .
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
- Disconnect gauge control module connector A (20P).
- Check for continuity between gauge control module connector A (20P) terminal No. 19 and body ground.NOTE: Test on wire side of terminals.Fig 1: Checking Continuity Between Gauge Control Module Connector (20P) Terminal No. 19 And Body Ground

Is There continuity?
YES - Repair a short to ground in the wire between the gauge control module and the fuel tank unit
NO - Go to step 14.
- Disconnect the secondary fuel gauge sending unit 5P connector.
- Check for continuity between fuel tank unit 5P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 2.

Is There continuity?
YES - Repair a short to ground in the wires.
NO - Go to step 16.
- Reconnect gauge control module connector A (20P).
- Reconnect the fuel tank unit 5P connector.
- Clear the DTCs with the HDS.
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0) and then back to ON (II).
- Wait for at least 30 seconds.
- Check for DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC B1176 indicated?
YES -Go to step 22.
NO - Replace the FUEL GAUGE SENDING UNIT TEST .
- Disconnect the fuel tank unit 5P connector.
- Check for continuity between fuel tank unit 5P connector terminal No. 1 and body ground. Test on wire side of female terminal.
Is There continuity?
YES - Repair a short to ground in the wire between the fuel tank unit and the secondary fuel gauge sending unit.
NO - Go to step 26.
- Disconnect the gauge control modle 20P connector.
- Check for continuity between secondary fuel tank unit 5P connector terminal No. 1 and No. 2.

Is there continuity?
YES - Repair a short in the wire.
NO - Replace the gauge control module.. See GAUGE CONTROL MODULE REPLACEMENT .
- Test the fuel gauge sending unit. See
FUEL GAUGE SENDING UNIT TEST
.
Is the fuel gauge sending unit OK?
YES -Go to step 6.
NO -Replace the fuel gauge sending unit. See FUEL PUMP/FUEL GAUGE SENDING UNIT REPLACEMENT .
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
- Disconnect the fuel tank unit 5P connector. See step 4 FUEL TANK UNIT REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Disconnect gauge control module connector A (20P).
- Check for continuity between fuel tank unit 5P connector terminal No. 2 and body ground.

Is there continuity?
YES -Repair a short to ground in the wire.
NO -Go to step 10.
- Disconnect the secondary fuel gauge sending unit 5P connector. See step 4 FUEL TANK UNIT REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

Is there continuity?
YES -Repair a short to ground in the wire.
NO -Go to step 12.
- Check for continuity between fuel tank unit 5P connector terminal No. 1 and body ground.
Is there continuity?
YES -Repair a short to ground in the wire.
NO -Replace the gauge control module. See GAUGE CONTROL MODULE REPLACEMENT .
