HDS does not communicate with the blind spot information system (BSI)

NOTE:
  • If the system malfunctions, always check for DTCs with the HDS.
  • If a DTC is stored, troubleshoot the DTC first.
  1. Test the battery (see BATTERY TEST ).

    Is the battery OK?

    YES  -Go to step 2.

NO  -Charge or replace the battery as needed, then recheck.

  2. Connect the HDS to the data link connector.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
  4. Check that the HDS can communicate with the body electrical system.

    Is communication possible?

    YES  -Go to step 5.

NO  -Do the MICU input test (see MICU INPUT TEST ).

  5. Check for body electrical system DTCs with the HDS (see SELF-DIAGNOSTIC FUNCTION ).

    Are any DTCs Indicated?

YES  -Troubleshoot the indicated body electrical system DTC(s), and retest.

    NO  -Go to step 6.

  6. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  7. Check the connection at the BSI control unit 16P connector.

    Is the connection OK?

    YES  -Go to step 8.

NO  -Repair the poor connection, and recheck.

  8. Disconnect the BSI control unit 16P connector.
  9. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  10. Measure the voltage between BSI control unit 16P connector terminals No. 7 and No. 10. There should be battery voltage.

    Is there battery voltage?

    YES  -Go to step  12.

    NO  -Go to step 11.

  11. Measure the voltage between BSI control unit 16P connector terminal No. 10 and body ground. There should be battery voltage.

    Is there battery voltage?

YES  -Repair an open in the wire between the BSI control unit and body ground (G604).

NO  -Repair an open or short to power in the wire between the tech relay in the auxiliary under-hood fuse/relay box and the BSI control unit.

  12. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  13. Disconnect under-dash fuse/relay box connector G (6P).
  14. Check for continuity between under-dash fuse/relay box connector G (6P) terminal No. 1 and BSI control unit 16P connector terminal No. 5.

    Is there continuity?

    YES  -Go to step 15.

NO  -Repair an open in the wire between the under-dash fuse/relay box and the BSI control unit.

  15. Reconnect under-dash fuse/relay box connector G (6P).
  16. Reconnect the BSI control unit 16P connector.
  17. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
  18. Check that the HDS can communicate with the BSI system.

    Is communication possible?

YES  -Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.

NO  -Replace the BSI control unit
