Electrical Compass Unit Input Test
- Remove the rear shelf (see TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - REAR SHELF AREA )
- Loosen the bolts (A), then pull our the electrical compass unit bracket (B)
- Disconnect the 6P connector (C) from the electrical compass unit (D), and remove the mounting bolt (E), then pull out the electrical compass unit
- Inspect the connector and socket terminals to make sure they are all making good contact
- If the terminals are bent, loose, or corroded, repair them as necessary, and recheck the system
- If the terminals look OK, go to step 5
- Reconnect the connector to the electrical compass unit Turn the ignition switch to ON (II) and do the following input tests at the connectors
- If any test indicates a problem, find and correct the cause, then recheck the system
- If all input tests prove OK, go to step 6
TEST CONDITION REFERENCE CHARTCavity Wire Test Condition Test Desired result Possible cause if result is not obtained 2 BLK Under all conditions Measure the voltage to ground There should be less than 0 1 V - Poor ground (G651)
- An open in the wire
1 BRN Ignition switch ON (II) Measure the voltage to ground There should be battery voltage - Blown No 5 (7 5 A) fuse in the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box
- An open in the wire
3 LT BLU Under all conditions Measure the voltage to ground There should be about 4 V - Faulty audio unit
- An open in the wire
- A short to ground in the wire
4 PNK Under all conditions Measure the voltage to ground There should be about 4 V - Faulty audio unit
- An open in the wire
- A short to ground in the wire
5 ORN Under all conditions Measure the voltage to ground There should be about 4 V - Faulty audio unit
- An open in the wire
- A short to ground in the wire
6 RED Under all conditions Measure the voltage to ground There should be about 4 V - Faulty audio unit
- An open in the wire
- A short to ground in the wire
- Disconnect the 6P connector from the electrical compass unit, disconnect the audio unit connector B (20P), and do the following input tests at the connectors

- If any test indicates a problem, find and correct the cause, then recheck the system
- If all input tests prove OK, the electrical compass unit is faulty, replace it, and do the compass calibration (see ELECTRICAL COMPASS ZONE SELECTION AND CALIBRATION )
