VSA DTC Troubleshooting: 68
DTC 68: Brake Pedal Position Switch Stuck OFF (Software)
1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
2. Check the No. 11 (15 A) fuse in the main under-hood fuse box.
Is the fuse blown?
YES - Go to step 3.
NO - Reinstall the checked fuse, then go to step 14.
3. Short the SCS line with the HDS.
4. Disconnect the PCM connector A (49P).
5. Disconnect the brake pedal position switch 4P connector.
6. Remove the brake light relay.
7. Check for continuity between PCM connector A (49P) terminal No. 8 and body ground.
Is there continuity?
YES - Repair short to body ground in the wire between the PCM and the brake pedal position switch or the brake light relay.
NO - Go to step 8.
8. Check for continuity between brake pedal position switch 4P connector terminal No. 1 and body ground.
Is there continuity?
YES - Repair short to body ground in the wire between the No. 11 (15 A) fuse in the main under-hood fuse box and the brake pedal position switch or the brake light relay.
NO - Go to step 9.
9. Reconnect all connectors, and install the brake light relay.
10. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
11. Clear the DTC with the HDS.
12. Start the engine, then press the brake pedal slowly and hard.
13. Check for DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC 68 indicated?
YES - Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), then go to step 20.
NO - The system is OK at this time.
14. Disconnect the brake pedal position switch 4P connector.
15. Measure the voltage between brake pedal position switch 4P connector terminal No. 1 and body ground.
Is there battery voltage?
YES - Go to step 16.
NO - Repair open in the wire between the No. 11 (15 A) fuse in the main under-hood fuse box and the brake pedal position switch.
16. Short the SCS line with the HDS.
17. Disconnect the PCM connector A (49P).
18. Check for continuity between brake pedal position switch 4P connector terminal No. 2 and PCM connector A (49P) terminal No. 8.
Is there continuity?
YES - Go to step 19.
NO - Repair open in the wire between the PCM and the brake pedal position switch.
19. Reconnect all connectors.
20. Do the brake pedal position switch test. Testing and Inspection
Is the switch OK?
YES - Go to step 21.
NO - Replace the brake pedal position switch. Adjustments
21. Substitute a known-good PCM. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
22. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
23. Clear the DTC with the HDS.
24. Start the engine, then press the brake pedal slowly and hard.
25. Check for DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC 68 indicated?
YES - Check for loose terminals in the VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector. Check for a loose connection at G303. If necessary, substitute a known-good VSA modulator-control unit Service and Repair and retest.
NO - Replace the original PCM. Service and Repair
