VSA DTC Troubleshooting: 59

DTC 59: BRKDIAG High

1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

2. Check the brake lights without pressing the brake pedal.

Are the brake lights on?
YES - Repair short to power in the brake light circuit.

NO - Go to step 3.


3. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

4. Check the brake lights without pressing the brake pedal.

Are the brake lights on?
YES - Go to step 5.

NO - Go to step 9.


5. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

6. Disconnect the VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector.

7. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

8. Check the brake lights without pressing the brake pedal.

Are the brake lights on?
YES - Go to step 9.

NO - Check for loose terminals in the VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector. Check for a loose connection at G303. If necessary, substitute a known-good VSA modulator-control unit Service and Repair and retest.


9. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

10. Press the brake pedal for 3 seconds or more.

11. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC 59 indicated?
YES - Go to step 12.

NO - Check for loose terminals in the VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector. Check for a loose connection at G303. If necessary, substitute a known-good VSA modulator-control unit Service and Repair and retest.


12. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

13. Disconnect the brake pedal position switch 4P connector.

14. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

15. Measure the voltage between the brake pedal position switch 4P connector terminal No. 2 and body ground with the headlights OFF and ON.

Is there less than 0.5 V?
YES - Go to step 16.

NO - Disconnect the taillight assemblies one at a time and retest. If the voltage is OK, check the taillight ground connection and then replace the faulty taillight.






16. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

17. Short the SCS line with the HDS.

18. Disconnect the PCM connector A (49P).

19. Check for continuity between brake pedal position switch 4P connector terminal No. 2 and PCM connector A (49P) terminal No. 8.

Is there continuity?
YES - Replace the PCM. Service and Repair

NO - Repair open in the wire between the PCM and the brake pedal position switch.
