Sunroof / Moonroof: Description and Operation
MoonroofHow the Circuit Works
The moonroof control unit, the moonroof switch, the driver's MPCS unit, and the MICU (in the under-dash fuse/relay box) control the moonroof operation. The moonroof control unit contains the moonroof close relay, the moonroof open relay, the moonroof motor, the hall sensor, and the CPU.
Power Supply
Fuse 3 (in the under-dash fuse/relay box) supplies battery voltage at all times to the MICU (in the under-dash fuse/relay box) and to the moonroof open and close relays.
Fuse 6 (in the under-dash fuse/relay box) supplies battery voltage at all times to the moonroof switch.
Normal Operation
The CPU in the moonroof control unit operates the moonroof open or close relays based on inputs from the moonroof switch. The relays are always in the grounding position unless energized. Energizing one of the relays provides battery voltage to the moonroof motor. The non-energized relay provides a path to ground for the moonroof motor.
The moonroof has a key-off delay allowing moonroof operation up to 10 minutes after turning off the ignition. Opening one of the front doors cancels the key-off delay.
Remote Transmitter Operation
The moonroof can be opened with the remote transmitter. Pressing the UNLOCK button twice and then holding the button opens the moonroof and all four windows. The moonroof and windows cannot be closed with the remote transmitter.
Ignition Key Operation
The moonroof can be opened and closed with the ignition key. Inserting the key into the driver's door key cylinder switch and turning the built-in key clockwise twice, and then holding the key opens the moonroof and all four windows.
Inserting the key into the driver's door key cylinder switch and turning the key counterclockwise twice, and then holding the key closes the moonroof and all four windows.
