Parking Brake Lining Break-In

NOTE: Perform this procedure only when new parking brake shoes or new rear brake discs have been installed.
  1. Check parking brake adjustment. See ADJUSTMENT CHECK  under PARKING BRAKE.
  2. With parking brake adjusted correctly, park car on firm, level surface.
  3. Keep parking brake release lever pulled up. Press parking brake pedal with 66 ft. lbs. (294 N) of pressure. Drive vehicle for 1/4 mile at about 31 MPH. Stop vehicle for 5-10 minutes to allow brake discs to cool.
  4. Repeat step  3 one more time.
  5. Check parking brake adjustment. See ADJUSTMENT CHECK  under PARKING BRAKE.
