Description & Operation

WARNING: Deactivate air bag system before performing any service operation. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. DO NOT apply electrical power to any component on steering column without first deactivating air bag system. Air bag may deploy.
CAUTION: Before disconnecting battery, obtain anti-theft code for radio. After battery is reconnected, the word CODE will appear on radio display. Enter 5-digit anti-theft code using select buttons and radio will begin working. If code is entered wrong 10 times, leave radio on at least one hour and enter code correctly. Any time radio power is lost, pre-selected radio stations will have to be set.

Instrument cluster panel includes speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge, and engine coolant temperature gauge. Instrument cluster is equipped with indicator lights for Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS), brake fluid level, brake system, charging system, cruise control, door and trunk open, high beam, gearshift lever position, immobilizer system indicator (if equipped), low fuel indicator, low oil pressure, seat belt reminder, Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), Traction Control System (TCS) status, and turn signal and hazard warning. See Fig 1 and Fig 2 .

Instrument cluster also includes ignition switch and instrument panel light dimmer switch control, which controls indicator lights on cluster. MIL (CHECK ENGINE light), illuminates if a computerized engine control fault occurs with engine running. Maintenance reminder light is used to remind driver of routine maintenance interval.
