Coolant Temperature Gauge Needle Inoperative (3.2TL)
- Remove PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Backprobing, connect a fused jumper wire between ground and Powertrain Control Module (PCM) 32-pin connector "A" terminal No. 31 (Yellow/Green wire). See Figure. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Engine coolant temperature gauge needle should move to hot side after 30 or more seconds. If engine coolant temperature gauge does not operate as specified, go to next step. If engine coolant temperature gauge operates as specified, substitute a known-good PCM and recheck. See SUBSTITUTING PCM under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. If problem goes away, replace original PCM.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect PCM 32-pin connector "A". Turn ignition switch to ON position. Measure voltage between PCM 32-pin harness connector "A" terminal No. 31 (Yellow/Green wire) and ground. If 5 volts do not exist, go to next step. If 5 volts exist, replace fuel and temperature gauge.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Remove instrument cluster and disconnect instrument cluster 18-pin connector "B". See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Check for continuity in Yellow/Green wire between PCM 32-pin harness connector "A" terminal No. 31 and instrument cluster 18-pin harness connector terminal No. 3. If continuity exists, replace fuel and temperature gauge. If continuity does not exist, check for open in Yellow/Green wire between PCM 32-pin harness connector "A" and instrument cluster 18-pin connector.
