DTC P0133 Or P0153: Primary Ho2S-1 Slow Response

NOTE: Trouble shoot DTC P0131, P0132, P0135, P0151, P0152 or P0155, if present, before proceeding.
  1. When DTC P0133 and/or P0153 is set, a slow response has been detected. Check for deterioration of HO2S-1 and HO2S-1 heater, or an exhaust leak. Replace as necessary.
  2. Perform PCM reset procedure. See PCM RESET PROCEDURE/CLEARING CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Start engine and run at 3000 RPM, with no load and transmission in Park or Neutral, until radiator fan comes on. Install SCS service connector tool. See Figure . Test drive vehicle at a constant 55 MPH, with transmission in "D4" position until readiness code comes on. If DTC P0133 sets, replace right HO2S-1. If DTC P0153 sets, replace left HO2S-1. If DTC P0133 and/or P0153 do not set, problem is intermittent. System is okay at this time. Check for poor connections or loose wires between suspect HO2S-1 and PCM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
