2.5TL & 3.2TL

  1. Locate Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) on left side of engine near engine oil filter. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect VSS 3-pin connector. Using a DVOM, check for continuity between VSS 3-pin connector terminal No. 1 (Black wire) and ground. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, check for poor connections or open in Black wire between VSS and ground connection, located on left side of engine.
  2. Reconnect 3-pin connector to VSS. Using a DVOM, backprobe and measure for voltage at VSS 3-pin connector terminal No. 2 (Yellow wire). If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, check fuse No. 1 (10-amp) located in underdash fuse/relay box in left kick panel. Check for a short to ground in Yellow wire between fuse No. 1 and VSS. Repair as necessary.
  3. Using a DVOM, backprobe and measure for voltage at VSS 3-pin connector terminal No. 3 (Orange wire). If voltage is about 5 volts or more, go to next step. If voltage is less than 5 volts, check Orange wire for an open or a short to ground between VSS and Powertrain Control Module (PCM), Transmission Control Module (TCM) and cruise control unit. A short to ground in Orange wire can be caused by a short in any component connected to Orange wire. Repair as necessary.
  4. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Backprobe with DVOM positive lead to Orange wire and negative lead to Black wire. Raise and support front of vehicle. Place transmission in Neutral. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Block one front wheel, slowly rotate opposite wheel and measure voltage. If voltage pulses from zero volts to about 5 volts or more, go to next step. If voltage does not pulse as specified, replace VSS. See VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR (VSS)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. See Figure .
  5. Disconnect instrument cluster Blue 16-pin "A" connector. See Figure . See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect DVOM between Blue 16-pin "A" connector terminal A3 (Orange wire) and ground. Block one front wheel, slowly rotate opposite wheel and measure voltage. If voltage pulses from zero volts to about 5 volts or more, replace speedometer. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If voltage does not pulse as specified, repair open in Orange wire between VSS and speedometer.
