Removal & Installation (2.3CL)

- Remove center console. Disconnect harness both the 12-pin and 2-pin connectors from A/T gear position switch. Remove nuts and A/T gear position switch. To install, ensure parking brake is applied. Place switch slider on A/T gear position switch in Park position. See Fig 1 . Place shift lever in Park.
- Install A/T gear position switch and nuts. DO NOT tighten nuts at this time. The A/T gear position switch must be adjusted. To adjust A/T gear position switch, place shift lever in Park. Ensure retaining nuts are loose. Note harness connector terminal identification. See Figure .
- Connect a DVOM between terminals No. 7 and No. 10. Move A/T gear position switch toward rear of console until continuity is present between terminals No. 7 and No. 10. Free play at lock pin should be .079" (2.0 mm). See Fig 2 .
- Tighten nuts. Check A/T gear position switch for correct continuity in all gear positions. See A/T GEAR POSITION SWITCH under COMPONENT TESTING. If proper adjustment cannot be obtained, check for damaged shift lever detent or bracket. Install harness connectors and center console.
