Removal & Installation (2.3CL)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1998 Honda Odyssey, 1998 Honda Accord, and 1998 Acura 2.3CL. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove center console. Disconnect harness both the 12-pin and 2-pin connectors from A/T gear position switch. Remove nuts and A/T gear position switch. To install, ensure parking brake is applied. Place switch slider on A/T gear position switch in Park position. See Fig 1 . Place shift lever in Park.
  2. Install A/T gear position switch and nuts. DO NOT tighten nuts at this time. The A/T gear position switch must be adjusted. To adjust A/T gear position switch, place shift lever in Park. Ensure retaining nuts are loose. Note harness connector terminal identification. See Figure .
  3. Connect a DVOM between terminals No. 7 and No. 10. Move A/T gear position switch toward rear of console until continuity is present between terminals No. 7 and No. 10. Free play at lock pin should be .079" (2.0 mm). See Fig 2 .
  4. Tighten nuts. Check A/T gear position switch for correct continuity in all gear positions. See A/T GEAR POSITION SWITCH  under COMPONENT TESTING. If proper adjustment cannot be obtained, check for damaged shift lever detent or bracket. Install harness connectors and center console.
