WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1998 Honda Odyssey, 1998 Honda Accord, and 1998 Acura 2.3CL. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

With ignition in RUN or START position, voltage is supplied to A/T gear position indicator, located on instrument panel. See Fig 1 or Fig 2 . When shift lever is moved to designated gear position, A/T gear position switch completes the ground circuit for A/T gear position indicator. The light on A/T gear position indicator will illuminate to indicate shift lever gear position. The A/T gear position switch is located on driver's side of shift lever. See Fig 3 and Fig 4 .

When headlights are turned on, voltage is applied to A/T gear position indicator dimming circuit through Red/Black wire from combination light switch. Brightness of dash lights is controlled through Red wire from brightness controller.
