DTC P1753/1: Lock-Up Control Solenoid Valve "A"
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1998 Honda Odyssey, 1998 Honda Accord, and 1998 Acura 2.3CL. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Using scan tool, retrieve A/T freeze data. Clear fault codes and road test vehicle under same conditions freeze data was recorded. If fault code returns, go to next step. If fault code does not return, problem is intermittent, check transaxle and PCM connections.
- Disconnect 25-pin PCM harness connector "B" and 16-pin connector "D". Using a DVOM, check for voltage between 16-pin PCM harness connector "D", terminal No. 1 (Yellow wire) and 25-pin PCM harness connector "B" terminals No. 20 or 22 (Brown/Black wires). See Figure and Figure . If voltage is present, go to next step. If voltage is not present, repair short to voltage in Yellow wire between 16-pin PCM harness connector "D" and lock-up control solenoid valve "A".
- Turn ignition off. Measure resistance between 16-pin PCM harness connector "D", terminal No. 1 (Yellow wire) and 25-pin PCM harness connector "B" terminals No. 20 or 22 (Brown/Black wires). If resistance is not 12-25 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 12-25 ohms, go to step 7) .
- Check for continuity between ground and 25-pin PCM harness connector "B" terminals No. 20 or 22 (Brown/Black wires). If continuity is not present, repair open Brown/Black wires. If continuity is present, go to next step.
- Disconnect lock-up control solenoid valve/shift control solenoid valve "A" harness connector. Check for continuity between 16-pin PCM harness connector "D", terminal No. 1 (Yellow wire) and 25-pin PCM harness connector "B" terminals No. 20 or 22 (Brown/Black wires). If continuity is not present, go to next step. If continuity is present, repair short to ground in Yellow wire between 25-pin PCM harness connector "B" and lock-up control solenoid valve "A".
- Measure resistance of Blue/Yellow wire between ground and lock-up control solenoid valve harness connector (solenoid side). If resistance is not 12-25 ohms, replace lock-up control solenoid valve assembly. If resistance is 12-25 ohms, repair open in Yellow wire between lock-up control solenoid valve "A" and harness connector.
- Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between 16-pin PCM harness connector "D", terminal No. 5 (Black/Yellow wire) and 25-pin PCM harness connector "B" terminals No. 20 or 22 (Brown/Black wires). If battery voltage is present, check for loose PCM harness connectors. Replace PCM with a known-good unit if necessary. If battery voltage is not present, check for blown fuse No. 4 on 2.3CL and Odyssey or fuse No. 6 on Accord in underdash fuse relay box. If fuse is okay, repair open between ignition switch and fuse relay box.
