Speedometer, Trip Meter, & Odometer Do Not Operate
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect 3-pin connector from VSS. VSS is located on transaxle. Check for continuity between Black wire terminal and ground. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, check for open in Black wire or poor ground connection.
- Turn ignition on. Check for battery voltage between VSS 3-pin connector Black/Yellow wire and Black wire terminals. See Figure . If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, turn ignition off. Check for continuity between Black wire and ground. If continuity exists, repair open in Black/Yellow wire. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Black wire or poor ground connection.
- Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between VSS 3-pin connector Blue/White wire and Black wire terminals. If voltage is about 5 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not about 5 volts, repair open in Blue/White wire or short to ground.
- Reconnect VSS 3-pin connector. Raise and support front of vehicle. Using voltmeter, backprobe VSS 3-pin connector Blue/White wire terminal. With ignition on and transaxle in Neutral, block one front wheel and slowly rotate other front wheel. If voltage pulse is 0-5 volts, go to next step. If voltage does not pulse 0-5 volts, replace VSS.
- Disconnect speedometer Blue 16-pin connector, located behind instrument cluster. Using voltmeter, backprobe speedometer Blue 16-pin connector terminal No. 6 (Blue/White wire; Orange wire after splice). See WIRING DIAGRAMS. With ignition on and transaxle in Neutral, block one front wheel and slowly rotate other front wheel. If voltage pulses, replace speedometer. If voltage does not pulse, repair open in Blue/White wire between speedometer and VSS.
