Fuel Gauge Sending Unit Test

  1. Turn ignition off. Remove trunk floor panel and fuel tank access cover. Disconnect fuel gauge sending unit 3-pin connector. Inspect connector for damage, looseness or corrosion. If problem is found, repair as necessary. If connector is okay, go to next step.
  2. Remove fuel gauge sending unit. Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance between fuel gauge sending unit terminals No. 1 (Black wire) and No. 2 (Yellow/Blue wire). See FUEL GAUGE SENDING UNIT RESISTANCE table. If resistance is not as specified, replace fuel gauge sending unit.
FUEL GAUGE SENDING UNIT RESISTANCE

Float Position (1) Ohms
Full 3.5-5.0
1/2 29.5-35.5
Empty 105.0-108.0
(1) In empty position, float will be aligned with bottom of fuel tank. Full position will be at highest position from bottom of fuel tank.
