Loosening brake line flare nuts can go from a simple job to a dreaded chore with the turn of a wrench! It doesn't take much to round off the corners of a stubborn nut, especially if you're using the wrong wrench.
For flare nuts, use a high quality flare nut wrench. Here's why:
- A standard, open-end wrench contacts just two corners of the nut. On a stubborn nut, that wrench can spread open just enough to round off the corners or deform the nut.
- A flare nut wrench is thicker around the head, and contacts five corners of the nut. This keeps it from spreading open under load, and the 5 contact points grip the nut more securely, spreading the load more evenly.
