Tension Gauge Method

  1. Attach the belt tension gauge to the belt and measure the tension. See Fig 1 . Follow the gauge manufacturer's instruction.
  2. Adjust belt to specification. See ALTERNATOR BELT ADJUSTMENT SPECIFICATIONS - TENSION GAUGE METHOD  .
  3. Loosen the alternator adjusting nut and mounting nut.
  4. Move the alternator to obtain the proper belt tension, then retighten the adjusting nut and mounting nut to the specified torque.
  5. Recheck the deflection or tension of the belt.
  6. After adjusting, if necessary adjust the P/S pump belt and compressor belt.
