Removal (Legend)

  1. Obtain anti-theft code. Disconnect negative and positive battery cables. Disable air bag system. See appropriate AIR BAG article in the ACCESSORIES/SAFETY EQUIPMENT Section. Remove access panel from steering wheel lower cover. Remove Red shorting connector. Unplug connector between air bag and clockspring.
  2. Plug air bag harness connector into shorting connector. On "L" and "LS" models, plug clockspring connector into Shorting Connector (07MAZ-SP00100). On all models, remove switch assembly covers. Remove Torx bolts and air bag module.
    WARNING: Place air bag module on bench only with pad surface up.
  3. Unplug connectors from horn, remote audio and SET/RESUME switches. Remove steering wheel retaining nut. Remove steering wheel by applying steady upward pull while rocking steering wheel from side to side.
