PINPOINT TEST 5: THE ODOMETER IS INOPERATIVE

Normal Operation
The odometer is con trolled by a rolling count signal sent from the powertrain control module (PCM) to the instrument cluster over the high speed controller area net-work (CAN) bus lines. The instrument cluster interprets the signal sent from the PCM and displays the current mileage on the odometer liquid crystal display (LCD).

DTC B2143 - sets if the instrument cluster detects a nonvolatile memory failure during its self-test sequence.
DTC U0294 - sets if the instrument cluster fails to receive the odometer rolling count data from the PCM and the odometer displays.
