PINPOINT TEST 12: THE LOW OIL PRESSURE INDICATOR IS INOPERATIVE/ALWAYS ON

Normal Conditions
The oil pressure switch is a normally open switch. When the oil pressure is within normal ranges, the oil pressure switch closes and sends a ground signal to the instrument cluster and turns off the oil pressure warning indicator. When oil pressure is low the oil pressure switch opens, removing the ground signal, and the instrument cluster turns on the low oil pressure warning indicator.

Possible Causes
- circuit (DG/W) open, or short to ground or power
- engine oil pressure switch
- instrument cluster
