Pinpoint Test K: The Safety Belt Warning Indicator Is Never/Always On

Normal Operation

The Restraints Control Module (RCM) monitors the safety belt position through the safety belt buckle switch. The RCM (Restraints Control Module) provides the safety belt buckle status to the Instrument Cluster (IC) over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN) communication bus. If the IC (Instrument Cluster) does not receive the safety belt buckle switch status from the RCM (Restraints Control Module) or the message is deemed invalid by the IC (Instrument Cluster) for greater than 5 seconds, the IC (Instrument Cluster) sets DTC U0151 and defaults the safety belt warning indicator off.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- RCM (Restraints Control Module)

- IC (Instrument Cluster)

PINPOINT TEST K : THE SAFETY BELT WARNING INDICATOR IS NEVER/ALWAYS ON

K1 CARRY OUT THE IC (Instrument Cluster) INDICATOR LAMP CONTROL ACTIVE COMMAND USING THE SCAN TOOL

- Ignition ON.

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: IC (Instrument Cluster) DataLogger.

- Select the IC (Instrument Cluster) safety belt warning indicator (SBLT_LMP) active command on and off.

Does the safety belt warning indicator turn on when commanded on and turn off when commanded off?

Yes
GO to K2.

No
INSTALL a new IC (Instrument Cluster). REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.

K2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IC (Instrument Cluster) SELF-TEST

- Check for recorded IC (Instrument Cluster) DTCs from the self-test.

Is DTC U0151 recorded?

Yes
GO to Pinpoint Test AZ. Pinpoint Test AZ: DTC U0151

No
GO to K3.

K3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE RCM (Restraints Control Module) SELF-TEST

- Check for recorded RCM (Restraints Control Module) DTCs from the self-test.

Are any DTCs recorded?

Yes
REFER to Restraints and Safety Systems &/or Air Bag Systems.

No
INSTALL a new RCM (Restraints Control Module). TEST the system for normal operation.
