Instrumentation, Message Center and Warning Chimes

Pinpoint Test AU: DTC U0101

Normal Operation

- DTC U0101 (Lost Communication With TCM (Transmission Control Module))- sets in continuous memory if data messages received from the Transmission Control Module (TCM) over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN) are missing for greater than 5 seconds.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- TCM (Transmission Control Module) (part of the mechatronics assembly)

- Instrument Cluster (IC)

PINPOINT TEST AU : DTC U0101

AU1 VERIFY THE CUSTOMER CONCERN

- Ignition ON.

- Verify that there is an observable symptom present.

Is an observable symptom present?

Yes
GO to AU2.

No
The system is operating normally at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.

AU2 CHECK THE COMMUNICATION NETWORK

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Network Test.

- Carry out the network test.

Does the TCM (Transmission Control Module) module pass the network test?

Yes
GO to AU3.

No
REFER to Information Bus.

AU3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IC (Instrument Cluster) SELF-TEST

- Check for recorded IC (Instrument Cluster) DTCs from the self-test.

Is DTC B1317 or DTC B1318 recorded?

Yes
GO to Pinpoint Test AR (B1317) or GO to Pinpoint Test AS (B1318). Pinpoint Test AR: DTC B1317 Pinpoint Test AS: DTC B1318

No
GO to AU4.

AU4 RECHECK THE IC (Instrument Cluster) DTCs

NOTE: If new modules were installed prior to the DTC being set, the module configuration may be incorrectly set during the Programmable Module Installation (PMI) or the PMI (Programmable Module Installation) may not have been carried out.

- Clear the DTCs. Repeat the IC (Instrument Cluster) self-test.

Is DTC U0101 still present?

Yes
GO to AU5.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic.

AU5 CHECK FOR DTC U0101 SET IN OTHER MODULES

- Clear all DTCs.

- Ignition OFF.

- Ignition ON.

- Wait 10 seconds.

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Self-Test.

- Retrieve the continuous memory DTCs from all modules.

Is DTC U0101 set in the ABS module?

Yes
INSTALL a new mechatronic assembly to install a new mechatronic assembly. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

No
INSTALL a new IC (Instrument Cluster). REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
