DTC B2799 - Engine Immobilizer System Malfunction

DESCRIPTION

This DTC is stored when one of the following occurs: 1) the ECM detects errors in its own communications with the ID code box (immobilizer code ECU); 2) the ECM detects errors in the communication lines; or 3) the ECU communication ID between the ID code box (immobilizer code ECU) and ECM is different and an engine start is attempted.
Before troubleshooting for this DTC, make sure no certification ECU DTCs are output. If output, troubleshoot the certification ECU DTCs first.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

PROCEDURE

1. CLEAR DTC
(a) Clear the DTCs Engine Immobilizer System.
NEXT -- Continue to next step.
2. CHECK FOR DTC
(a) Check for DTCs Engine Immobilizer System.
OK:
DTC B2799 is not output.
NG -- REREGISTER ECU CODE
OK -- USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK
3. REREGISTER ECU CODE
(a) Reregister the recognition codes in the ECUs Engine Immobilizer System.
NEXT -- Continue to next step.
4. CLEAR DTC
(a) Clear the DTCs Engine Immobilizer System.
NEXT -- Continue to next step.
5. CHECK FOR DTC
(a) Check for DTCs Engine Immobilizer System.
OK:
DTC B2799 is not output.
NG -- CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTOR
OK -- END (RECOGNITION CODE IN ECU IS DEFECTIVE)
6. CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTOR
(a) Turn the engine switch off.
(b) Check that the connectors are properly connected to the ECM and the ID code box (immobilizer code ECU).
OK:
Connectors are properly connected.
NG -- CONNECT CONNECTORS PROPERLY
OK -- Continue to next step.
7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ID CODE BOX - ECM)





(a) Disconnect the E28 box connector.
(b) Disconnect the A38 ECM connector.
(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance:






NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.
8. REPLACE ECM
(a) Temporarily replace the ECM with a new one Removal.
NEXT -- Continue to next step.
9. REGISTER ECU CODE
(a) Register the recognition codes in the ECUs Engine Immobilizer System.
NEXT -- Continue to next step.
10. CLEAR DTC
(a) Clear the DTCs Engine Immobilizer System.
NEXT -- Continue to next step.
11. CHECK FOR DTC
(a) Check for DTCs Engine Immobilizer System.
OK:
DTC B2799 is not output.
NG -- REPLACE ID CODE BOX (IMMOBILIZER CODE ECU)
OK -- END (ECM IS DEFECTIVE)
